Are you interested in local heritage and social history?

Do you want to develop your voice acting skills and portfolio?

Do you live in or near Solihull?

This may be the role for you!

Why do we need you?

Solihull Action through Advocacy has received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to explore and record the histories of people with learning disabilities in Solihull. It will focus on the stories and experiences of people who lived and worked in Middlefield Hospital, a long-stay hospital and Hampton Manor Homes, a residential home for ladies with learning disabilities.

Middlefield Hospital c.1930s

We are looking for volunteer voice actors with a male voice to bring old interview transcripts to life.

The interviews are about Middlefield Hospital, and the interviewees were people who worked there. The source material is copyright of The Knowle Society.

The original (anonymous) interviewees were male, and so to represent their point of view we are only looking for actors with a male voice.

How much time should you offer? Where will you be based?

  • We are looking for reliable people who can offer us a few mornings/afternoons to learn and act out the transcripts.

  • The “roles” are of varying length – please let us know how much time you can offer when applying.

  • This role will be based at Solihull Action through Advocacy’s Main Office in Marston Green.

  • For copyright reasons we unfortunately cannot allow you to take home copies of the transcripts to practice away from the SATA office.

What can you gain from this opportunity?

  • Develop voice acting skills

  • Add to your acting portfolio

  • Make a difference to people with learning disabilities and help their stories to be heard

  • Engage with local history and make it accessible

  • Reasonable transport expenses reimbursed

Is there an induction and training?

You will receive a full induction before you start.
